Our Facebook friend, Benay, recently made a visit to Hemisfair — a place she hasn’t been in years. She shared her experience with us:
“I was impressed. Had such little time to spend there so I am looking forward to coming back. I like that you can bring the kids and let them enjoy the water park, playground equipment, etc.. I was attending a nursing conference across the street at the Marriott Plaza. I actually stayed behind the Marriott, at the Hyatt, on St. Mary. This may be the best deal in the downtown San Antonio area. The room was extra wonderful with free parking and free sit down breakfast. I went online and was able to get a big discount. I saved well over $100.00 staying there. Got to go by the Alamo book store and buy a book with my family name in it from 1720, when as Missionaries, they came over the Rio Grande and build the mission in the Alamo/Hemisfair area. Wow that was exciting. Thank you for all you are doing to restore the area. I was at the Hemisfair in 1968…gosh we were able to see and talk over a picture phone….LOL. We attended a concert that night with Louis Armstrong. So much fun.”
Do you have a HemisFair ’68 memory or artifact you would like to share. If so, we’d love to hear from you! We encourage you to share your story at www.hemisfair.org/memories.
